Tyler Derby
Derby, 24, was born and raised in San Jose. He graduated from Leigh High School in
2006. In 2005 he was the MVP of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. After Leigh
he played two years at West Valley earning All-American honors and helping west
valley reach the state championship for the first time. Tyler received a scholarship to
Campbellsville University in Kentucky. He tore his labrum in the beginning of the
season ending his pitching career but he still played center field nearly every game. That
tiger team was the first in its schools history to make it to the NAIA World Series in
Lewiston Idaho. After receiving surgery and sitting out the 2012 season Tyler transferred
to Concordia University in Irvine in 2011 for his senior year and his team went on to win
the NAIA national championship. Tyler was part of the all tournament team and won a
GSAC gold glove award. He studied physical education with a coaching emphasis at both
Campbellsville University and Concordia and will complete his degree this year. Shortly
thereafter he began coaching in 2012 where he was the head assistant at Palo Alto
High School. He started doing private lessons in the summer of 2011 and was the head
coach for Wiens baseballs 18u travel team. He is a current college coach and resides in
Saratoga.
